Book Description:
While investigating the hit-and-run death of a young boy, Seattle homicide detective Tracy Crosswhite makes a startling discovery: the suspect is an active-duty serviceman at a local naval base. After a key piece of case evidence goes missing, he is cleared of charges in a military court. But Tracy knows she can’t turn her back on this kind of injustice.
When she uncovers the driver’s ties to a rash of recent heroin overdoses in the city, she realizes that this isn’t just a case of the military protecting its own. It runs much deeper than that, and the accused wasn’t acting alone. For Tracy, it’s all hitting very close to home.
As Tracy moves closer to uncovering the truth behind this insidious conspiracy, she’s putting herself in harm’s way. And the only people she can rely on to make it out alive might be those she can no longer trust.
Thoughts:
I think this may be my next favorite in the #tracycrosswhiteseries next to #mysistersgrave. By now you know that I’m in love with this series, but this was a great book this far into the series. It ties up some things that have slowly been taking place in the background of the first four books, while also introducing new characters. This was a book that centered around the sense of family and unity that these detectives and their families have. As Faz says, “This is what family does. We do dumbass shit, but we do it together.”
Again, @robertdugoni does it with the perfect title. This book is about a young boy who is killed near his home, so Tracy and Kins try to solve that crime, while Faz and Del work on finding the drug dealer responsible for the overdose of Faz’s niece. Both storylines are so well written and bring awareness to the drug crisis, which is done very well. The emotions Faz feels are raw and real, while trying to help fight this problem and feeling helpless. While this is happening, Tracy is trying to determine what really happened to D’Andre Miller and why the Navy appears to be covering up his death.
This was another easy ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for me, as this had everything I love on a good mystery/suspense novel. I continue to admire how Dugoni writes such an incredibly strong female lead in his women characters, while also being on point with larger issues he tackles in his novels. This book was written in 2017, and the drug crisis is only becoming stronger, and the use of this affecting someone so close to one of the main characters was very powerful. There’s so much more I want to say about this book, and the characters present, but don’t want to give anything away… Trust me, this is a series you are going to want to start reading, and you will continue to fall in love with not only the characters, but their relationships and their cases. Another great one!
